Promoting and protecting children’s rights
To commemorate the Day of the African Child 2026, Help a Child Burundi, together with its partner FECABU, organized and participated in activities that raised awareness of children's rights and strengthened collaboration with communities and government institutions.
The celebrations began on 16 June at the community-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre at Nyakiga Primary School in Butaganzwa Commune, where children, parents, community leaders and local authorities came together under the theme, “Together, let us ensure that every African child has access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation services, and good hygiene for a better future.”
Through drama, songs, poems and quizzes, children shared their views on the importance of water, sanitation, education and healthcare for their well-being and future. Local leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working with communities and partners to improve children’s access to essential services and protect their rights.
Help a Child also participated in the national commemoration held on 29 June in Gitega Province, organized by the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Gender. The event brought together government officials and child protection partners to reaffirm their shared commitment to children’s rights.
By engaging children, communities and government institutions, Help a Child continues to advocate for a future where every child can grow up safe, and able to reach their full potential.
