Early Childhood Development

Help a Child Kenya works to give young children the best possible start in life by improving access to quality early childhood education and care.

31 ECD centres supported in 2025
2,154 children supported in ECD centres in 2025

We strengthen community-based ECD centres, train caregivers and support parents and local management committees in creating safe, stimulating and child-friendly learning environments. By combining early learning with positive parenting and community involvement, Help a Child helps children develop essential skills and prepares them for primary school.

Help a Child Kenya works with local partners, communities and county authorities to improve the quality and accessibility of early education. This includes strengthening learning environments, supporting teachers and promoting inclusive education so that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

For example, in Mukemo, Busia County, Help a Child partnered with local organisations, education officials and the community to establish a model Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centre, transforming an unsafe, deteriorating classroom into a better learning environment for young children. Through these efforts, Help a Child helps build stronger foundations for lifelong learning.
