Recognising that the early years are crucial for children's physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, we work with families, communities and local partners to improve access to quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) services for children aged 0–7. This includes supporting community-based ECD centres, strengthening the skills of caregivers and promoting positive parenting practices. For example, parents receive guidance on responsive caregiving, child nutrition and early stimulation, while caregivers learn how to create safe, clean and stimulating environments where children can learn through play. By bringing together early learning, health, nutrition and parental involvement, Help a Child Rwanda helps young children develop essential skills and build a strong foundation for their future.

Turakura Kids Rwanda

Through Turakura Kids Rwanda, Help a Child invests in a better future for 25,000 children aged 0–7 by strengthening early childhood development at school, at home and in the community. The programme supports the establishment and improvement of Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, where children can learn, play and develop the skills they need for a successful transition to primary school.

At the same time, parents and caregivers are supported through training and Self-Help Groups to provide a safe, nurturing home environment, practise positive parenting and meet their children's basic needs. At community level, the programme strengthens child protection and encourages local communities and authorities to take shared responsibility for children's well-being.

By bringing together early education, parental support and child protection, Turakura Kids Rwanda aims to create sustainable, community-led solutions that give young children a safe start in life and better opportunities for the future. We also encourage collaboration between parents, teachers and communities, recognising that children learn best when they receive consistent support both at home and in the classroom.
