Early Childhood Development

Our programme are uniquely focused on Early Childhood Development (ECD), parenting, including the Parenting Challenge, and child participation, addressing areas often overlooked by larger NGOs.

3,297 children supported in ECD centres in 2025
29 ECD centres supported in 2025

We are particularly focused on children aged 3–8 and those from marginalised communities in Northern and Western Uganda. Help a Child Uganda supports community-based and model ECD centres, strengthens the skills of caregivers and teachers, and works with parents to promote positive parenting and early learning at home.

Bridge the gap

For example, in 2024, a model ECD centre was established in Aojapiro to help bridge the gap between nursery and primary education and provide children with a more supportive start to their school careers. By combining early learning with parental involvement, child protection and community empowerment, Help a Child Uganda aims to improve school readiness, support the transition to primary education and give children a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.
