Through our Child-Centred Community Development (CCCD) approach in Karamoja, Terego and Madi Okollo, we support families in improving agricultural production, managing natural resources sustainably and developing long-term plans for their households with PIP. By strengthening food production and promoting sustainable farming methods, families can improve their access to nutritious food, increase their income and become more resilient to challenges such as drought, changing weather patterns and rising food costs.
Food Security & Livelihoods
Help a Child Uganda works with families and communities to strengthen food security and build sustainable livelihoods, helping households meet their basic needs and improve their children’s well-being.
Help a Child Uganda recognizes that children’s well-being is closely linked to the economic stability and food security of their families. Through approaches such as Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) and Self-Help Groups, families are encouraged to set goals, strengthen their livelihoods, save money and explore opportunities to increase their income. For example, families can develop household plans to improve their farms, while members of Self-Help Groups save together, access small loans and invest in income-generating activities such as livestock rearing, crop production or small businesses.
These efforts help parents provide nutritious meals, cover essential household expenses and invest in their children’s education and development. By strengthening household resilience and empowering communities to take ownership of their development, Help a Child Uganda contributes to a more secure and sustainable future for children and their families.
