We strengthen community-based child protection committees and parents through training and capacity building, while developing effective mechanisms to prevent, report and respond to child violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We also train our staff and partners in child protection mechanisms to ensure that children at risk receive timely and appropriate support.

We integrate safeguarding into all our Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes and strengthen referral pathways between communities and relevant service providers. By working closely with local structures and partners, we aim to build sustainable protection systems that can respond effectively to children's needs.

In humanitarian settings, we are exploring ways to adapt and expand our child protection interventions. Our work in refugee camps is increasingly focused on strengthening resilience among children and families, while we continue to identify opportunities to improve child protection and support vulnerable communities.

Strengthening parenting support

Building on the experience of The Parenting Challenge, Help a Child Burundi has contributed to the development of a national parenting module tailored to the Burundian context. Designed for use by child protection actors across the country, the module provides a shared framework for strengthening parenting practices and supporting children’s well-being.

To promote its nationwide adoption, we develop practical facilitation tools and guidelines, train a national pool of trainers, and advocate for its use by government and non-governmental organisations. By harmonising parenting interventions and sharing knowledge across the sector, we aim to strengthen parenting support for families and contribute to a more effective and sustainable child protection system in Burundi.
