Our Child Protection programme focuses on both prevention and response, helping children understand their rights while strengthening the capacity of parents, caregivers and communities to keep them safe. Activities include raising awareness of child protection issues, supporting community-based protection structures, promoting positive parenting, and creating safe, Child-Friendly Spaces where children can play, learn and express themselves. Child Protection is also integrated into broader programmes, including Early Childhood Development, education and humanitarian assistance.
Child Protection
Help a Child South Sudan works to protect children from violence, exploitation and neglect, paying particular attention to the youngest children and those living in vulnerable or unsafe situations.
Growing up safely
A key part of our work is supporting vulnerable children and families through community-based initiatives and targeted interventions. Through the Kids@Risk programme in Pibor, Help a Child South Sudan supports children affected by crisis with access to education, protection and trauma-informed care.
In Aweil, the A Good Start, a Loving Family project focuses on improving care for young children by supporting foster family placements, providing safe daytime care, and strengthening parents’ caregiving skills. We also use child-friendly activities, such as traditional Boru Boru games, to promote children’s rights, build confidence, encourage girls’ participation and strengthen peaceful relationships within communities.
Through these efforts, Help a Child South Sudan aims to ensure that children grow up in safer, more supportive environments where they can recover, develop and thrive.
