In a context where competition over natural resources, intercommunal tensions and long-standing grievances can contribute to violence, we work with children, young people, parents and community leaders to encourage peaceful coexistence and non-violent conflict resolution. Through community dialogues, awareness-raising activities and inclusive, community-based initiatives, Help a Child South Sudan aims to address sources of tension, strengthen mutual understanding and create opportunities for people from different backgrounds to work together towards common goals.
Peacebuilding & Social Cohesion
Help a Child South Sudan promotes social cohesion and peacebuilding by strengthening relationships, trust and cooperation within and between communities affected by conflict, displacement and poverty.
Boru Boru
A distinctive feature of this work is the use of Boru boru, a traditional South Sudanese girls’ ball game that Help a Child has revived as a tool for peacebuilding, empowerment and social cohesion. By bringing children and community members together through sport, the organisation creates opportunities to rebuild trust, strengthen relationships across community groups and promote the participation and leadership of girls and women. We also facilitate dialogues between farmers, cattle keepers, traditional leaders, women, youth and local authorities to address conflict drivers, such as disputes over cattle movement and access to resources, and to develop community-led solutions.
Through these combined efforts, Help a Child South Sudan aims to reduce tensions, encourage peaceful coexistence and build more inclusive and resilient communities
