In a context affected by conflict, displacement, climate-related shocks and limited access to essential resources, the programme aims to help communities and families meet their immediate food needs while building resilience to future crises. Interventions can include support for agricultural production, kitchen and school gardening, improved farming practices and community-based initiatives that enable households to increase food availability and diversify their livelihoods. We strengthen families to become self-reliant and work alongside communities to create long-term structural change. This enables children to grow up safely, thrive in school, and gradually work towards independence.
Food Security & Livelihoods
Help a Child South Sudan’s Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL) work focuses on strengthening household food security, improving nutrition and helping vulnerable families develop more sustainable sources of income.
Joint Response
Through the South Sudan Joint Response (2024–2026), led by Help a Child in collaboration with local and international partners, FSL activities include the distribution of emergency food assistance, livelihood kits and agricultural inputs, alongside practical training and extension services to support food production.
Depending on local needs, assistance may also include seeds, farming tools and fishing kits to help households restore their livelihoods and access food. These interventions are implemented in crisis-affected areas, including Tonj North and Pibor, and aim to reduce immediate food shortages while enabling families to recover productive assets, strengthen self-reliance and build more resilient livelihoods.
