Child protection

Help a Child DRC works with families, communities and local partners to protect children from violence, abuse, exploitation and other risks, particularly in crisis-affected areas.

We strengthen community-based protection mechanisms, raise awareness of children's rights and support parents and caregivers in creating safer environments for children in Child-Friendly Spaces.

Through programmes such as Kids@Risk, we support family reunification, psychosocial well-being and safe spaces for children. These Child-Friendly Spaces will gradually evolve into community-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres as soon as the security context allows. They will provide a stable and inclusive environment where young children can learn and develop through play, early learning activities and psychosocial support.

We also strengthen referral mechanisms and collaborate with schools, community leaders and local authorities to ensure that vulnerable children can access appropriate protection and support.

By linking child protection with education, family resilience and community engagement, we contribute to safer and more supportive environments where children can grow and thrive.
